Enjoying December

The weather in and around Vancouver, BC in the month of December varies. Sometimes there’s snow, rain or just cold and clear. One way to be sure of getting the winter wonderland feeling is to go up on one of the local mountains. This was taken at the top of Grouse Mountain, where there was plenty of snow.

Beautiful Christmas lights are found throughout the city, which make it quite festive. Winter can be long and dark, but adding some cheerful sparkle certainly helps. Granville Island was brilliantly lit up and very welcoming.

When it gets cold and the water freezes over, you’ll find beautiful ice crystals. As you take a closer look, you’ll notice the amazing design and detail. I took this macro shot of the water which had frozen in Steveston Village.

It’s quite lovely to take a walk through the woods after a fresh snowfall. Everything seems to be so quiet. The snow adds some brightness to the long winter nights. This was taken at Surrey Lake Park, just after it had snowed.

Since it doesn’t get that cold here in the winter, people still enjoy going for walks. With some warm clothing, nights are quite pleasant. The White Rock Pier is lit up at night and makes for a picturesque stroll.

When it does get cold enough, waterfalls will freeze over. It’s fascinating to see how the fast flowing water is stopped and turned into a solid form. This was taken at Flood Falls when some of the cascading water froze into ice.
